The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) will run a new student diversity course for teachers. The course will help with lesson planning for students with a range of learning abilities and interests to help them achieve their goals. Naturally Brave 2025
Primary schools across the Townsville and Cairns regions are invited to submit an expression of interest for Naturally Brave with Bushfire Kids Connect and Growing With Gratitude. Naturally Brave delivers a pioneering and engaging STEM program designed to promote awareness of natural disasters and encourage resilience and empathy in students. Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills Program 2025
Secondary schools in the Cairns region and junior and secondary schools in the Townsville region are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills Cairns Program with the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development. 2025 Positive Partnerships workshops
Positive Partnerships will run workshops throughout Queensland during Term 1 and Term 2, 2025. The workshops are for parents, carers and school staff who are supporting autistic school-aged students. Roadshow to Taiwan
Study Queensland is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from Queensland CRICOS registered Schools to participate in a proposed roadshow to Taiwan in March 2025. This roadshow will be supported by Study Queensland, a division of Trade and Investment Queensland, under the Queensland International Education and Training Strategy 2022-27. Schools participating in the roadshow will have opportunities to meet with education agents and parents at events in Taipei and Taichung. SQ will aim to finalise the Roadshow details before mid-November 2024. Schools will be asked to confirm participation by 30 November 2024. Eating Disorders Queensland’s First Steps to Support
The Eating Disorders Queensland’s First Steps to Eating Disorder Support trains non-clinical workers to provide eating disorder support. The course is free and features a series of online modules designed for people in a non-medical setting who are often the first contact for people experiencing eating disorders. ACARA Professional Learning Hub course for teachers – Science
The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority has developed a professional learning course for teachers: Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 Developing a deeper understanding – Science. The course focuses on three areas including understanding science, science as a human endeavour and science inquiry. This professional learning opportunity allows teachers to explore the areas in-depth to provide their students with a comprehensive world view. Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) has updated its academic integrity courses to include references to Artificial Intelligence (AI). The QCAA website houses resources including academic integrity factsheets for teachers and parents/carers. The QCE and QCIA policies and procedures handbook is available to assist schools to develop policies including academic integrity (Section 8). QCAA has also published AI guidance documents for school communities.
AITSL My Induction App
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership has developed a My Induction app for beginning teachers. The free app provides advice and activities for anyone starting their new teaching career. For more information click here.
AITSL’s Intercultural Development Toolkit
AITSL has developed a professional learning toolkit that supports the intercultural development of teachers to enhance their culturally responsive teaching practice. The toolkit comprises an intercultural development self-reflection tool, an intercultural development continuum, and an intercultural development capability framework.
Professional learning for teachers
The Australian Government’s eSafety initiative is providing professional learning for teachers about online safety topics including responding and reporting: critical online incidents in school settings and online harmful sexual behaviours, misinformation, and emerging technologies. The free live webinars can be accessed here. For lower primary school educators, self-paced online modules covering technology safety, respect, and critical thinking are also being offered.

Gallipoli Scholarship Fund 2025
Senior Queensland Catholic school students may wish to apply for the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund in 2025. The scholarships provide financial assistance to young people under the age of 25 commencing their first year of tertiary study at university or TAFE in the year of application. Studies undertaken must be at the Degree, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level. Applicants must be an Australian citizen who is a direct descendent of a Service man or woman who has served in the Australian or New Zealand Defence Force in a peacekeeping or conflict operation. Sport in Motion photography contest
Applications are now open for the Department of Education’s TJ Ryan Memorial Medal. All Queensland secondary schools are encouraged to nominate one of their high The Dicastery for Culture and Education (Vatican) is promoting an international photography contest, aimed at young photographers, professional or amateur, under the age of 25. The Sport in Motion contest includes five categories: sport and hope, sport and family, sport and disability, sport and politics, and sport and ecology. All entries must be submitted by 30 April 2025 and the winners will be announced at the Jubilee of Sport in June 2025. The winners will be awarded a meeting with the Holy Father, a visit to the Vatican Museums, a workshop in the Osservatore Romano newspaper and the international dissemination of the photos in the Holy See’s media. The Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science – Science Teaching Prizes awards are now open! The Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science are Australia’s most prestigious and highly regarded awards for demonstrated achievements in scientific research, research-based innovation and excellence in science teaching. Assistance for Year 12 school leavers
To assist Year 12 students with their transition from school, the Australian Government has provided information about a variety of payments and services to support them.
Information about leaving school
The Services Australia website has some great information to support students finishing secondary school, whether they are interested in working, doing an apprenticeship or traineeship, or doing further study. Youth Allowance for students and apprentices and ABSTUDY are the main payments students may get. There are also other payments for students who need to move away from a regional or remote area to study. Find out more here.
Medicare benefits
If year 12s haven’t already, they need to add a bank account to their Medicare account to get Medicare benefits. They need to do this whether they have their own Medicare card or choose to stay on their parents’ card. Find out more here.

Free eSmart program to help young Australians stay safe online
The Alannah and Madeline Foundation has released an eSmart Digital Licence+ for primary schools. This free initiative builds on the eSmart Digital Licence+ program already available for students aged 10 to 14 years, and the Media Literacy Lab for high school students aged 12 to 16 years. The program now extends to young learners aged 4 to 9 years old. Further information, including lesson plans aligned with the Australian Curriculum, can be found on the foundation’s website here.
NAPLAN 2025
The NAPLAN assessment will be held from 12–24 March 2025. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority has a range of resources on the National Assessment Program website including the NAPLAN 2025 nine-day test window infographic. The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority has recently released memos for schools regarding NAPLAN 2025 preparations, including access arrangements and reasonable adjustments for students with disability, noting some activities need to be undertaken in Term 4 this year.
Podsquad
Podsquad is a free play-based wellbeing app created by Health and Wellbeing Queensland for children aged 5-12 years and their families. Children learn about eating better, moving their bodies more, and the importance of sleep through bite-sized lessons, tailored to their wellbeing goals. They will earn rewards for their online activities, but more importantly for completing offline, real-life quests. The Podsquad app supports lasting change by exploring the topics of nutrition, physical activity, and sleep through a behavioural science framework. The app’s content has been developed by childhood health experts and co-designed with more than 300 families. Find out more here.
Bullying No Way website updates
Bullying No Way has developed a new First Nations page, offering culturally responsive, evidence-informed resources for schools, students, and parents. Created with input from our national education network and First Nations academics, the resources help address bullying in a way that honours and reflects the experiences of First Nations communities. Schools can use these tools to support First Nations students, ensuring they feel respected, heard, and valued, while also helping non-Indigenous students better understand their peers’ lived experiences. The Good Village AIS Problem Solvers Program
The Australian Sports Commission (AIS) has recently launched The Good Village AIS Problem Solvers Program – a free eight stage incursion for Australian primary schools. Aligned to the Australian Curriculum, the program encourages students to engage in design thinking and problem solving and learn from high performance athletes. Resources for students with disability
The Australian Government Department of Education has released new resources for students with disability and their parents and caregivers. The resources provide practical information about the rights of students with disability and the obligations of education providers under the Disability Standards for Education 2005. The resources were co-designed by people with disability, with help from Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA). Find out more here.
Supporting students with disability
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) has created resources to help teachers and leaders understand and meet their obligations under the Disability Standards for Education (DSE) 2005. AITSL states the ‘DSE resources increase clarity with respect to inclusive education practices to ensure students with disability have equal opportunities to access and participate in education on the same basis as students without disability.’ Find out more here.

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority has provided parent and carer information sheets on their website. The information sheets describe the guides for what all students should learn as they progress through each band of schooling from Prep to Year 10. New Curriculum Connection resources
New resources are available for educators to help support them to understand the interrelationships across the dimensions of the Australian Curriculum from Prep to Year 10. School Immunisation Program
Queensland Health’s School Immunisation Program offers a safe and effective opportunity to help keep Queensland students protected from vaccine-preventable diseases. In year 7, vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) and diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (whooping cough) is offered. In year 10, vaccination against meningococcal B and meningococcal ACWY is offered. Year 7 and year 10 students will receive a consent form and information pack for details on the vaccines offered and the diseases they prevent. The program is provided at no cost to students. However, parents and carers will need to return their signed program consent form.
ACARA Resources: Curriculum Connections – new and updated online resources
A new online resource for teachers to help students develop their understanding of the factors that influence their mental health and wellbeing has been launched. The new resource has been developed by ACARA, working with experts from Beyond Blue, Headspace and the National Mental Health Commission. The new Curriculum Connection resource aims to support teachers to be better equipped to teach about mental health and wellbeing through the Australian Curriculum, Version 9.0 learning areas including Health and Physical Education, Digital Technologies, English, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) and the Arts. In addition, updates have been made to the previously published Curriculum Connections for Online Safety and Respect Matters.

The Australian Education Research Organisation has released new research on how to best support secondary students who have gaps in their foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Expressions of Interest are now open for the 2023 Smiling Mind Primary School Program. The Australian Government initiative aims to support the mental health of children in the school and home environments. eSmart program
The eSmart program provides a set of educational tools for principals, teachers, students, and parents to keep children safe from bullying, cyber bullying and violence. The Australian Government has entered into a funding agreement with the Alannah and Madeline Foundation to make their range of digital and media literacy education products available to all Australian schools. Specialist Disability Support in Schools Program
All Queensland schools are encouraged to take advantage of supports available through the Department’s Specialist Disability Support in Schools Program (SDSS). The program funds approved non-government organisations to deliver services that improve access to and participation in the curriculum for students with disability. The SDSS is a distinct service and is not part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Organisations may provide local, regional and/or state-wide services. All services are provided at the request of the school. Schools should contact SDSS organisations directly to discuss service provision. Details regarding the organisations and the types of services are available on the SDSS program website.
Disability Discrimination Act 1992 resources
The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority has developed a suite of Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) resources to support approved providers, nominated supervisors, coordinators, and service staff to understand and implement their obligations under the DDA. The Australian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, alongside Beyond Blue and Headspace, have developed a new online resource for teachers to help students develop their understanding of the factors that influence their mental health and wellbeing and that of others. NDIS Wellbeing Survey
The National Disability Insurance Agency is working with the Monash University Centre for Health and Economics to develop a survey to assist in measuring the wellbeing of people with a disability, including NDIS participants. NDIS state the survey will more accurately assist to measure wellbeing for people with different types of disabilities, ages and community groups. Safer Internet Day will be held on Tuesday 11 February 2025. Safer Internet Day is a global initiative to raise awareness of online safety issues. The eSafety Commissioner leads the initiative in Australia. Schools can subscribe to the eSafety Commissioner to receive updates and be advised when campaign resources are ready to download to support Safer Internet Day activities.
Catholic Education Week in Queensland
In 2025, Catholic Education Week (CEW) will be celebrated from Sunday 27 July – Saturday 2 August and the official launch will be held in the Diocese of Rockhampton. The theme, which has run over the past three years and continues to resonate with school communities, will be Communities of Faith, Hope and Love. It aligns with the Jubilee 2025 theme of Pilgrims of Hope, gives an opportunity to build on existing resources, and reflects survey feedback indicating satisfaction with and growing recognition of the theme.
