QCEC welcomes new Minister

Executive Director of the Queensland Catholic Education Commission Dr Lee-Anne Perry has congratulated incoming federal Education Minister Dan Tehan on his appointment.

“We look forward to working with Mr Tehan to achieve the best outcomes for all students, regardless of sector or location,” Dr Perry said.

“The 147,000 students in our Queensland Catholic schools and their families will be looking to the new minister to resolve the outstanding issues we have around school funding.

“We have been working closely with the Australian Government to ensure that the funding model delivers a fair outcome for all students.

“We hope to continue with Mr Tehan the good work that has been done in recent weeks as we have continued working through the funding issues.”

Dr Perry also acknowledged the work of outgoing minister Simon Birmingham.

“Senator Birmingham has been a staunch advocate for government education policy,” Dr Perry said.

“He has listened to the concerns of the Catholic sector in the aftermath of last year’s change to education funding.

“The recent work Senator Birmingham has done in consulting with our sector will provide the basis for ongoing discussions with the new minister.

“We wish Senator Birmingham well in his new portfolio.”
